Cary Grant as Linus

He dropped out one week before filming for unknown reasons. I love the film as is is, but how perfect would it have been with Cary Grant as Linus?

reply

not perfect at all.

too expected as a final result -- one doesn't expect bogart to win at love but always expected grant would. the story is much better as filmed.

I would have rather Grant played the part as opposed to Bogart. Bogart wasn't my idea as a leading man, too unbelievable.

reply

Bogart was a fabulous leading man, but not a romantic lead. Their 30-yr age difference bothers me more than his lack of sexual charisma.

reply

Agree, Grant or anybody else would have been better physically and more believable--Bogey was good but too unattractive

reply

Grant would've been freaking amazing

The issue with Bogart is that the chemistry with he and Audrey just didn't work out. He wasn't against type here. Linus is supposed to be *not* smooth. The dad would not have burst out laughing at the idea of Cary Grant seducing Sabrina.

I think Gregory Peck could have worked. He's a bit older than Holden, has that "responsible older brother" type demeanor, and obviously has the chemistry with Audrey from Roman Holiday. Maybe Jimmy Stewart could have worked too. Apparently he and Audrey Hepburn were friends and always wanted to find a movie to do together.
