I thought the character Sabrina was pretty shallow.

Falling in love so easy... In the case of Linus, it happened only a few days after a couple of pamperings accompanied by Bogart's own bad performance. I almost thought it was plothole when she hadn't even yet recognized his plan until explained.

Despite the depth of her character, Hepburn was very good in terms of portraying aspects of Sabrina by ways of movements and interactions, thus making her interesting enough to continue seeing. Holden was very good too. The cinematography and the direction were splendidly done.

Not shallow, just naive. She admitted this in the film: She didn't become a sophisticate, she just "got myself a new hairdo".

"I told you a million times not to talk to me when I'm doing my lashes"!

All three of the main characters are ridiculous. Sabrina has the emotions and intellect of a seven year old child from beginning to end. David is a one note douche bag. Linus is just an out and out arse hole. The camera sure does like Hepburn and that is the ONLY thing that kept me watching this disappointment of a 'classic'.

First time I watched this, I thought Sabrina, upon her return from Paris, was setting up David and would shoot him down once he showed up for their rendezvous at the tennis court, and dress him down for his womanizing. Instead, she was so smitten with him she was willing to be just another in a long line of conquests even though she was fully aware of his philandering. Rather disappointing.

Sabrina's crush on David was just a childhood crush -- very intense but not built to last. Her character was seen as a lovely, innocent flower, not as a femme fatale. She would not have tried to manipulate David (except her attempt to make him love her as she wished).

Her falling for Linus was a big growth and learning experience. You can see it begin in the scene on the tennis court when Linus goes to gently let her down after David has sat on those champagne glasses. Linus puts his hand around her waist to dance, and when he kisses her the look on her face is one of awakening to love and sexual possibilities.

Ida96: BINGO. Perfect assessment. Yes. That look on the tennis court said so much.
