Elizabeth Taylor and squirrels?

When they are driving up the mountain and talking about the book Tacy was reading, she says she didn't finish it because they saw the movie that had the dark haired actress who likes squirrels and is married to Michael Wilder. I'm assuming she is talking about Elizabeth Taylor. Did I misunderstand "who likes squirrels" part? What does she mean by that?

When Elizabeth Taylor was 14, she wrote a book titled "Nibbles and Me" about her and her pet chipmunk; calling it a squirrel must have been a little joke from the screenwriter.

OK I saw the movie just now, and when they are talking, Nicky asks if the movie Tacy is referring to is the one with the guy with the shoes on his knees. The only movie I know like that is "Moulin Rouge", which has nothing to do with Liz Taylor or Michael Wilding. Is there another movie like that?
