the plane crashed
I can respect how others appreciate this film, but for me I can't find anything redeeming about it. I know it was made more than 50 years ago, but that doesn't qualify it for special treatment. It's just not a good film. The reasons why go on and on: John Wayne being referred to as the old timer, when in fact he really wasn't old; the Korean character (i.e., why was she in the movie?); the extended side trip with Ed Harris and his wife; the little boy non-actor (I could say I've seen better acting in grammar school productions, but if that kid was in them, it doesn't qualify); the way that the copilot and the stewardess were standing at the back of the plane as it was going down for a possible crash landing; and on and on. There were classic films made earlier than this one and I love them, but "The High and the Mighty" is a boring and bad film, pure and simple.
