The one change from the novel to the movie
If you've read the book, you've seen the movie, and vice versa. They are that close. Not surprising, since Ernest Gann adapted his own novel to the screen. The only major change made by the movie is the addition of little Toby -- the boy who (thankfully) sleeps through most of the footage. He's played by the son of the movie's director which may explain why he's been written into the plot. Or pethaps someone felt the movie could use a bit of "kid appeal."
