Dial MN?

I'm bothered by the telephone dial, which is clearly shown in close-up with the number 6 associated with the letters MN. I'm old enough to remember dial phones, and each number had three letters; for 6 it was MNO. The movie is so carefully constructed in so many ways, I can't understand why there is this apparent glaring error. Or were British dial phones different or something? Anyone know?

in "calling bulldog drummond" (1951), also filmed in england, a close-up of an english telephone dial indeed has the two-letter combination "MN" (preceded by "KL").
