Man I saw it and it was so fake. The special effects were so bogus. I hope the remake is better. Are they going to use a diferent costume?

The image of Blacky LaGoon (as Famous Monsters of Filmland christened him) is one of the most iconic in all horror-science fiction films. We accept and overlook the limitations of 1950s technology and just enjoy the hell out of this film. I've been watching it since the mid-1960s - I grew up with it. I hope the plans for a remake are shelved - it's not necessary.

something that has always bugged me about the "rubber suit" topic is that the ONLY flaws I could ever find with the gill-man suit were a) wrinkles at the elbow when arms are bent, and b) bubbles from the top of his head.
but every time someone writes an article or a tv piece about 50's B-movies,or wants to stir up some crap on this board, the creature always comes up under the description of the CHEESY RUBBER SUIT...you want cheesy? (boy I'm gonna get in trouble for this!!!!!) ok here goes....

CHEESY = GODZILLA!

so give the gill man a break...just like a classic car, in '54, the gill-man was cutting edge. he still rocks!

expect alot to say the remake is crap ;) well it was made in 1954 what would ya expect of cause the effects were good in that era doubt the surviving cast members
ben said he was hoping there be no remake ya never ruin a classic

long live the classic creature there was already sequals to it
creature walks among us and Revenge of the Creature

i worte to ben the the only true Gillman no one will ever be as good as him
and of cause Ricou Browning underwater scenes

the cast who no longer with us surly be rolling around their graves if they knew about the remake expect it simlar to Psycho make the remake exactly the same

Well defended, everyone. This film was made at a time when atmosphere counted much more than special effects. Today it is the inverse. CGI comes first, sometimes before anyone has even put pen to paper.

"Why does this character/monster spit mucous as its weapon?"
"Who cares? It's gonna look so cool!!!"

Might not be an exact quote, but it's pretty close!

Oh, I've got the Legacy 3 Creature Features DVD in the player now, and it looks good. Watching the first one, and I can't wait to get hit with those musical Big Brass Blasts!

And...

I've always thought the Gill-man suit was great!

Ooo! Ooo!

He just attacked and I got my Da Da DAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I thought it was impressive for it's time, I was surprised they got it under the water and with such flexibility.
