Too bad Abbott + Costello didn't do a crossover...

By the time Universal did the last Creature film Bud & Lou had already retired from movies. But it would have been an excellent addition to their 'Meet the (Monster)' series.

Picture a key scene in a film that never was:
Bud & Lou are fishing in a life boat in the Black lagoon. Bud is catching fish after fish while Lou is having no such luck because every time he catches one the creature reaches up and grabs it.

Then when Lou leans over the rim to get a better look, the Creature pops his head up and hisses at him. Lou jumps back shouting "H-E-E-Y-Y-Y ABBOTT!!"
Bud scolds him, "What are you trying to do, scare the fish?"
And Lou replies in his timid little boy voice, "The fish are scaring ME!"

As a matter of fact they did meet the Creature from the black lagoon on one episode of 1954 TV show Colgate Comedy Hour, just prior to the movie being released (on March '54) ... This particular episode, however, seems lost or unavailable nowadays...You can have a glimpse of it on YouTube, here:

It evidently was shot directly from the TV set with a video camera, but it's better than nothing.
