Love Abbott and Costello in most any movie. Their monster movies were among the very best! Invisible Man, one of my childhood favorites!
In regards to introducing a 6 y.o. to monster movies, your son may not be any different than we were back in the day. I am a grandpa now, and saw many of the monster movies in the 1950s between the ages of 5 and 12. These are the ages when great memories are made. Television was fantastic for showing Abbot and Costello to this day. I even enjoyed old 1930s and 1940s sci-fi movies and serials such as Buck Rogers.
I think that you should just watch the oldies with your son a few times, then let him be with friends his age to watch some. Young minds are ripe with imagination and just let them enjoy! We did, and we all turned out OK. Excessive violence should be avoided. Our classic monster movies of the day never included gratuitous violence and gore. We only needed just the suggestion of such and our imaginations took it from there.
