Julie Adams

No one seems to have brought this up yet, but I just saw this wonderful film again on TV and it rekindled one of my earliest crushes - indeed, the lovely Julie Adams.

I was 9 (30 years ago) when I first saw her in repose in the creature's arms in one of my horror encylopedias (thanks mum)and fell in love with her then. Seeing her again this morning, oh my, she was gorgeous.

My wife is getting fed up with me harping on about her :-)

Perhaps I had better not mention my crush on Tippi Hedron in The Birds then...

Contraceptives should be used on every conceivable occasion

Id love to be the creature that had her in his arms....anyone for inter-species relationships?

reply

Chck out the newly-released DVD where she is interviewed. Julie is still a fox.

reply

And a complete class act of the first rate!

Ulysses Everett McGill: Well I don't want FOP, godammit! I'm a Dapper Dan man!

reply

She certainly is sexy.

reply

I hadn't seen the movie since I was a kid, and growing up it was one of my favorite movies. But, looking at it now I realized: My god, she was hot!

reply

Agreed, the shorts she was wearing near the end of the movie were outstanding! Hot!

reply

I could understand many teen boys falling in love with Julie Adams in the 1950's. Must have been hell trying to get a Playboy mag back in those days.

reply

What's fascinating is that what was considered hot 50 years ago usually doesn't stand the test of time. Julie Adams is a babe in any decade.

reply

Adams did not play the Kay Lawrence character in the water scenes.

That was done by Ginger Stanley. I've told IMDB but they can't seem to get it right in the cast credits. :(

Both ladies were certainly lovely.

You can see Tippi Hedron in "The 4400". She had aged, but I loved
her in "Marnie".

Yea, I remember seeing the video on a store shelf as a child and I grabbed it said "Dad, I've got to have this!" It didn't and still doesn't disappoint.

"There are right people to lynch." Who? People not well connected.

This film is a classic. Julie Adams was a knockout in that white swim suit and I can't remember another film where Richard Denning, Richard Carlson and Whit Bissell appeared together. If they'd had Jeff Morrow and a few others I can't think of, it would have bee an all-star of the monster genre.

I'm watching it on TCM as I compose this and it still entertains. The gill man is obviously a rubber suit, but a very good one for 1954, considering that some of the characters in Star Wars (puppet Yoda, for example) weren't particularly advanced 20 years later.

Did Julie Adams have a nose job after this film. Sometimes I could swear she must have; other times I'm not sure. One thing for sure, in the closing scene, she's in a halter top when the creature comes on board one again, and when she fills her lungs to scream, you know why he was so smitten by her.

Actually, as an amphibian/reptile, he probably would have preferred a nice flat-scaly-chested mate with hefty musculature that he could take home to Mom with no embarrassment -- but chose to overlook Julie's unsightly, pneumatic ventral bumps for the sake of love.

reply

She was just on a CSI New York episode entitled "Boo". You can go on CBS.com and watch it. She's alot older now, of course, but I think still has the striking features.

reply

She is definitely the hottest of the Universal ladies.
