Fish Poison Powder
It's called Rotenone. Apparently, it's also used in the United States. It's also used as a pesticide.

It sounds deadly. According to the DVD commentary what we actually see is pure cream globulating it's way down in the water.
shareStrange how it didn't kill the humans swimming in the water
shareOh, it would kill humans....if we had gills. That is how it enters the body of fish or the gill man (the creature).
shareEven when you scuba dive sometimes you have to take out the mouth piece. Also something that kills fish surely would not do your skin any good.
shareI've done a little searching and found the following in Wikipedia:
Rotenone is classified by the World Health Organization as moderately hazardous. It is mildly toxic to humans and other mammals, but extremely toxic to insects and aquatic life, including fish. This higher toxicity in fish and insects is because the lipophilic rotenone is easily taken up through the gills of fish or the trachea of insects, but not as easily through the skin or the gastrointestinal tract.
Who'd want to eat fish that had been violently poisoned????
