Jack Wilson

Is the name of the Jack Palance character, it was also William Smiths character in Any Which Way You Can. I wonder if this was deliberate as Smith does look similar to Palance and was every bit as tough in real life as Jack Palance.

It was a homage to the movie Shane. In both films, the fight took place in Jackson Hole Wyoming and the bad guy was named Wilson. Except, the Wilson played by William Smith was not really a bad guy. He was just the opponent of the designated good guy played by Clint Eastwood.

Eastwood also considered Pale Rider to be a remake of Shane.
