I’ve seen Shane a dozen times at least, and I realized that in the scenes where he’s shooting… like the first one at “the little white rock” Alan Ladd is seriously a fast draw! … and this was done back in the days before modern CGI and special effects, so high-five to Alan for his abilities with a six-gun!

Glenn Ford's was supposedly faster. However, character John Doucette's draw is considered to be the fastest.

It's all Hollywood press agent P.R., maybe based on some impromptu contest over a drink somewhere, then puffed-up and passed around, then written up in Variety, then it becomes Hollywood legend. The real "fastest draw" was probably some obscure B-movie extra who had no slick publicist on the payroll to get it etched in stone.
