Could watch this forever

Just watched this for the third time, the new DVD is great! Fourth viewing coming up! Instantly, my favorite picture of all time (for now anyway)! Marilyn at her absolute loveliest (what a beautiful lady, and a great actress too)! The rest of the cast is great as well, especially Joseph Cotton & Jean Peters (she is a much underated actress, and now I feel that they both would have been better in "Vertigo" as well)...fantastic...the Falls are awesome...!! Love it!!!

Thank you for your comments bwelton! I just revised my first comments slightly, so take a look if you want to. Also, see the rest of the comments below for interesting information about the motel set and changes at the Falls since the film was made some 53 years ago. My thanks to all the people who contributed!
You could not have picked a better word to describe this film: "Mesmerizing"...that it truly is...! Love it...!!

Thanks again bwelton for your comments. We just puchased a 32 inch Sony LCD screen TV a liitle while ago, and I watched this film on the wide zoom setting. No obvious distortion and it looked great! (Especially considering that this was made just before the CinemaScope craze began...definitely not needed here, it's perfect as it is). Love this film...!!

Well...maybe four viewings is more than enough times to watch this film. It starts to look "a little rough around the edges" after that, and the other husband is such a geek. But...beautiful scenery and Marilyn is in her prime and so gorgeous! I'll put it away for a while now, and bring it out at a later date. Hopefully, it ages gracefully...

The film is great for MM and J. Cotten, but I like it just for the 50's tourism and the color. I remember when I was a kid back in the 70's when, on family trips, would run into the old tourist spots that were run down or being replaced. It's great to see stuff like this up and running in their hey-day. Almost like some kind of timecapsule. How about those 50's Harleys that the police were using, the wooden boats and the 50's cars everywhere? Just fantastic .

I watch this one a lot, too, it's got so much going for it.

I really appreciate the fact Monroe is playing a bit of a trampy villianess for a change, not a cuddly sex kitten. Even Pauline Kael gave her a guarded thumbs up here.

I also really appreciate the fact Anne Baxter turned down the role that went to Jean Peters. I think Anne was a great actress, but the role cries out for a sweet, smart ingenue like Jean Peters, who is likewise terrific.

Joseph Cotten is one of the finest actors ever.
