Marilyn's 'Niagara' popularity

Marilyn proved without a doubt she was Hollywood's hottest screen personality when she came to Niagara Falls for shooting the pix. There were 70 newspaper and magazine reporters just waiting for her!

Yes, in 1953 she was very much a star in the ascendant. She then consolidated her stellar status with her next film, "Gentlemen prefer Blondes".

Actually, that was Hollywood's doing. :)
She was not "proving" anything, certainly not at that point - Hollywood had gambled on her and decided to make her a star.
The reporters were there because their editors were tipped by Hollywood that she was to be the next big thing.

So, what you're seeing is the studio system machinery in action.
And it's a very good example at that. :)
