Marilyn Monroe's Handbag
Does anyone know if that kind of bags are still made? I have been looking for one forever.

shareThey are called Lucite or Bakelite, and each one is really considered
an architectural piece of artwork. They were made between late 1940's,
early 1950's through the early 1960's.
They are very expensive, and highly sought after collectible vintage handbags, depending on their condition.
These handbags were carried by show girls, celebrities, actresses
and high society women.
I own 10 of them, and each one is different. I am a "baby collector",
compared to some collectors who own hundreds of these and wish I could own more;
but they can be sooooo expensive!
You can find some of these bags on Ebay, and the bidding, depending on the
condition and uniqueness of the bag, can get very high. Right now,
there are some very nice Buy It Now's, starting at about $200.00.
When you start to acquire these little lovelies, you can use them as
a fashion accessory (depending on it's condition), or you can resale it
and get a return on your initial investment. They are somewhat delicate
because they are plastic, and you have to be careful and store them
in cold temperatures so that the plastic does not start to melt or warp.
So far, I have not been able to part with any of my small collection.
I have a mint condition clear lucite vintage handbag that I purchased on Ebay, about
5 years ago for $79.00 plus shipping and handling.
I saw a duplicate of that same bag on Ebay a few days ago,
starting bid was $399.00, and Buy It Now price was over $1,300.00!
I am old enough to remember the fabulous fashions on the 1950's, and always
wanted one of these bags, but my parents just couldn't afford them; but now
I am enjoying them...and they are great conversation pieces.
Go for it...and get you a little piece of vintage fashion history.

I am 6 months late.....but....wow! To own these lucite handbags that belonged
to your great-grandmother....what a treasure. I use a green scarf in my
favorite clear lucite handbag. Very nice accessory.

You could go to a craft store, get some sheets of clear plastic, glue, some small hinges, and a latch, and make one yourself.
