That bad song

I like Niagara more than most viewers, but....

When Monroe sings along to "Kiss Me" at the Cutlers cabin, it always makes me laugh. She's flat and sounds really drippy, moreso than even her usual sexpot persona. She looks great and sounds awful.

Also for something we hear so much, I wish it was a better song. "Kiss Me" is tripe.

I think it's supposed to be tripe. Likewise her persona, I think she is supposed to appear a bit ridiculous and more than a little cheapish.

I like the song "Kiss" - apparently so did most people at the time. Marilyn recorded a full version of the song that can be found on a number of albums and cds.

I rather like it too, actually, but I think I see where the OP is coming from.
There's something eerily vulgar (I mean the character, not MM herself) about the way she sings it.

reply

Yes, I think it was meant to be sung in a sort of slightly drunkish, sultry way.
I thought Marilyn really played that character well.
Like when hubby came in while I was watching the "old black magic" scene from Bus Stop - and he said - "she's terrible!" LOL I said "she's meant to be!"

"I thought Marilyn really played that character well."

Yes, she did. Also creepy was the way she put on her phony baby voice when she was around other people, but used a normal adult voice with her husband.

It's a lovely song. Dean Martin and MM both covered it in 1953. They're on youtube.
