Flag at half staff

In one scene, taken from the Canadian side, I believe, the American flag is seen flying at half staff. There is no need in the film for this to be, so it must be because of something that occurred in the States that had the flag to be ordered at half mast. Any ideas who might have died at the time of the filming?

Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the Hell happened!

According to the link, Niagara was filmed in June and July 1952.

The following link shows that James W. Wadsworth, Jr. died on June 21, 1952. He was a US Congressman from 1933 to 1951 and a US Senator before that. He was born about 50 miles from Niagara Falls. I think he would have deserved the honor of a flag flown at half-staff.
