Rainbow Hotel, whats left

Here is the photo of what is left of the hotel. Its in Victoria park, directly across from the American side of the falls

If you were to cross from the U.S to Canada, the bell tower is there, right at the check point on the Candaian side. Just to your right about 1/2 a mile on your left is this location.........

Much is gone, but the pretty gardens are there as well as this structure.
I guess 54 years later, things have truly changed....

wow, that sucks that the cabins are gone... the little brick house type thing is what's left of them right?

You do realize that the cabins were only built as a movie set, don't you? It was disassembled after filming. There was never an actual hotel/motel on that site - just the park.

Pipeman,

Now that makes perfect sense.

The Park has been there forever, and the hotel SET was built there briefly for the film.

Major prime real estate !

Thanks for this info, I've wondered for years if that motel was real. I grew up in Toronto and always loved Niagara Falls. On the rare occasions I manage to get there these days, it always brings a flood of memories of this film and I always wish the atmosphere around the Falls was simpler now as it was in the film. It's just SO touristy everywhere. I think my love of the Falls and my love of this film kind of feed off each other. I hope to get there again in December.

Now this time the local is bumping a 3 year old thread. There are "rumors" on the internet and somewhere else on this board that the Rainbow Cabins were built for the movie, and later used for a real hotel. Not true, it was a set built in a City Park, and dismantled after the movie.

I didn't know it before today, but the stone structure linked to in the original post, although similar to, and nearby, the since torn down one in the movie, is not the same one, per this 2005 blog post by a local: http://accessniagara.com/blog/2005/06/08/a_scene_from_the_movie_niagara_then_and/

I have never personally seen this (nor thought to look for it), but according to a locked thread on tripadvisor.com, there is a plauque in the park at the site of the Rainbow Cabins: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g154998-i97-k705258-The_old_movie_Niagara-Niagara_Falls_Ontario.html

I came across a book about the filming of the movie "Niagara". Now I cannot find where to purchase it. I would like to travel to Niagara Falls next year and want to see where the filming took place. I did read that the "Rainbow Cabins" were facades built for the movie set and not an actual motel, they were built in Victoria Park across from the Bridal Viel Falls . Table Rock House has been extensively remodled and many additions built to the original structure. The incline used to transport people to the "Maid of the Mist" boat ride as not been in use for decades, I actually traveled on that incline as seen in the movie when I was child in the early eighties. Also the Carillon is now automatic with no person actually playing the music set to bells. any other information about the filming locations I would would greatly be obliged.
