My favorite film!

This is my all time favourite film, I love everything about it and I could watch it again and again!

Who else loves it? It's just one of those films you really get into and you wish you where there!

I love this film too. Having been to the Falls 3 times, the photography provides a beautiful and accurate portrait of the lovely location. This movie obviously benefits from the use of Technicolor.

Marilyn Monroe was gorgeous to look at and an underrated actress; Joseph Cotten is one of my all-time favorites (Shadow of a Doubt, The Third Man, Citizen Kane, etc.); and the actress that played Polly Cutler was also lovely and talented. The only real zero in this movie was the actor who played Ray Cutler.

I love it too! I haven't seen it in so long, though. I must buy it!

I tend to watch this one a lot, too - I'm glad I'm not the only Niagara junkie ! Movie has everything in it ! The entire cast shines in this movie, although the nice-guy husband is a little too hyper for my taste (and that role - what a jerk he is when he tells the police to leave his wife alone!)

I must of seen it a million times. I love it too. The scenery pulls me in. Also I remember the Falls during the 60's when it still had those little cabin motels. I also like that the Jean Peters roles is not some airhead 50's wife. And Marilyn's role was a very serious one. Unlike most movies in the 50's the women are running the show.

This is Marilyn's best role by far. It is so Hitchockian that it should have been one of his, afterall he loved his blondes. She is wonderfully dark in this film as well as the almost as good Don't Bother To Knock. Marilyn is classic, timeless, and a real talent. her sex appeal in this film only adds to her allure. She is breathtaking. A hugs fan.

I love this movie because it brings back memories of the Falls in the late 50s or maybe early 60s -- I must have been about 8 or 9 when I went there with my grandmother and my Canadian great-aunt. We stayed in a hotel or motel(not a cabin) on the Canadian side that had a view of the Falls like the movie. I just finished watching it for the fourth or fifth time and really appreciate the noir elements (and Joseph Cotton is still unbelieveably cool!).

Does anyone know --Is it possible to find any traces of the 50s-era Niagara there today? I'd like to go there but it looks like it's all high rises and casinos.

I know, this film is fantastic. It really shows off Marilyn's acting skills. It's brilliant. I could watch it over and over for an entire day and not get bored and what about that pink dress!Gorgeous!

THERE ARE SEVERAL SPOTS ON THE CANADIAN AND AMERICAN SIDES THAT STILL EVOKE THE 50s AND 60s. VICTORIA PARK AND SPOTS ALONG THE GORGE AND RIVER ON THE CANADIAN SIDE. CAVE OF THE WINDS AND THE THREE SISTERS ISLANDS ON THE AMERICAN SIDE.

I'm so glad all these over the air TV channels popping up are showing these old films. I would never have seen them otherwise.

I just got the Bluray version in High definition OMG is all i can say, the technicolor pops and you can almost feel the texture of some of the scenery, the Falls like breath taking and Marilyn just adds magic to the screen!

reply

I should have looked in to it. I really do want to own this film.

One of my favourites too. M M is stunning as are the falls. Fine performances from Cotton and Peters. Is the bell tower still there? Oh and that tune. Terrific finale. Wonderful entertainment.

reply

Yes, the Blu-ray version is terrific - looks fresh and new, even though it's been 62 years. They've mixed some surround and low frequency into the sound of the falls, so even Niagara Falls is impressive. Wonderful film, my favorite of those Marilyn made.

What I love about this movie is how beautiful it is. I tend to find Technicolor films to be rather washed out from lack of restoration or garish. But not this one. It just pops with color – but it's beautiful, and very easy on the eyes. It looks like a painting, but real – if you know what I mean.

Not to mention the scenery – it's so breathtaking! After watching it, you feel like you've just taken a trip to Niagara Falls for real!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!
