where do you think his cameo would have been. The thing about this movie is that it is just the type in my opinion he would have directed. It was well directed though so I don't think it would have been improved at all anyway. At the time this movie was made he started doing his cameos early in his movies. I think they might have added a few seconds to the movie at the first when the honeymooners enter Canada. They would have shown them driving away and maybe on a street Hitchcock might have been walking.

I don't think his "cameo" would be the issue to discuss - how about how the movie copied his style? Or, how would he have DIRECTED the movie?

Very good question, Ripshin. I've always felt that this film was very much the sort of thing that Alfred Hitchcock could have done. At the moment, I can only think of one thing that he may have done differently. I would hope that he would have chosen better music. I'm talking about when Jean Peter's character is napping when the rooms are finally changed and she sees Joseph Cotton's Character. She realizes that he is alive. The music is cheesy to me. It's used in other scenes as well. This is only my opinion, but I did'nt care for it, and I can't help thinking that Hitchcock would have used better music.
Your question is good. It has me thinking.
Do you have any ideas? You brought it up.

This movie is a perfect example to probe that Hitchcock its a very overrated director.
I think Hathaway does a superb job on this movie, very understated and subtle work. He even achieve a great performance from Marilyn.
Another thing, Hathaway had a lot of experience in westerns, thats one of the reasons he can capture actual location so well, the Niagara Falls looks magnificently, amazing technicolor photography. Great camera angles, edition and acting... just look at the escene in the tower.

Hitchcock always preefered to shot his movies in stupid sound stages and fake scenery.
Another thing, he always choose some cold frigid blonde(except for Grace Kelly, off course) to play the leading lady parts. In this movie Monroe looks hotter than a volcano.

I stay with Henry Hathaway!!

Why is he overrated?
'Coz he picks Kelly who was not a hot as Monroe............

Anyhow I would have loved Hitchcock to direct this

I just watched this film and I thought to myself: this is one of the best Hitchcock movies Hitchcock never directed. It's all there: the tension, the use of location, the blonde femme fatale......

He would walk along the sidewalk in the scene where the police officer is talking on the phone in front of his big window overlooking the street.

Just got through watching this movie for the very first time right now on TCM and before I went to this board I thought this was an Alfred Hitchcock movie lol . Excellent film ! I'm very surprised AF didn't grab this story up first . It would have been interesting if Alfred Hitchcock and Henry Hathaway had worked together to do a movie or two ? I really like everyone's AH's Cameo scenes . Another AH Cameo scene that would have been good - AH outside in the distance from the cabins by the trees chatting one to one with the owner of the " Rainbow Cabin Place " ( the man that gave the new couple cabin K and where the two couples were staying by the falls ) . Thanks wtl471629 for your subject post .

Henry Hathaway directed this film but it definitely has a Hitchcock feel to it.

I*f Hitch had directed this film, it would had been a lot better.

Its that man again!!
