Better than Fair

I like Taylor who moves & looks great;

but there are problems:

-the pace is sluggish

-it creaks a bit w\age

-stodgy relationships which doesn't always ring true

-Ferrer is only so-so as Arthur

good things,however,to point out :

-great score by Roszas

-locales look exotic

-Clarke looks menacing enuff along w\his sister

-gorgeous Ava Gardner

reply

I agree. Great scenery, great score, and a neat horse trick at the end.

The dialog is poor.

Ferrer as Arthur doesn't have much to work with in the script. He's just written boring.

reply

I completely agree with this - King Arthur should never lack charisma, and Ferrer is a vacuum.

Anne Crawford as Morgan is by far the liveliest thing about this colourful but forgettable romp.

reply

It's a very good swashbuckler.

I quite enjoy it. Yes, it's a bit old-fashioned, but in a good way, like one of those mid-2oth century children's books with gorgeous color illustrations. If it doesn't delve into the mythic depths of a film like Excalibur, it's still fine entertainment, with some unexpected touches that delight the uncynical
eye.
