You Can Kill Merlin?

Evidently in this movie, Merlin is just an adviser. I didn't think he could be killed. What's that all about?

Why did you think he couldn't be killed? He is, by all medieval accounts, a man of flesh and blood, born of a woman. His sire may be a demon, but that never made him immune to violent death.

Merlin =/= Gandalf

Merlin is the son of a devil. He can't die, which is why he is trapped behind a stone in the original story. It did somewhat bother me that he was poisoned in this film.

reply

I've never read in any version of the legend that Merlin was made a prisoner because he couldn't be killed, nor any hint that Viviane wanted him dead. Where did you get that?

reply

In Le Morte D'Arthur, Merlin is trapped by the damsel of the lake behind/in a large stone.

reply

Yes, he is indeed trapped. What I meant was, I don't remember anything saying the reason she traps him is because he can't get killed. In fact I don't see any reason why she should want Merlin dead, at any point, in this source or in another.
