Opening good for War of the Worlds
The opening scenes in this movie would be just perfect for a true-to-the-story War of the Worlds. The meteorite (spaceship), the landing (crashed), the man and wife together at home (Carlson is perfect for the main role, too).
... and the rocks it pummels.
