From info I found on the "Lassie" website, I have learned that the Hondo dog was a Weatherwax-owned and trained dog that was a "Lassie" sibling, but not an official "Lassie".

They used some sort of dye on the collie. There are scenes where you can see the perfect "Lassie" coloring exactly and other scenes where the white areas are clearly dyed brown. I've always thought the dog was one of the Lassie collies.
shareRudd Weatherwax had more than one dog. Also, he was Pugsly Addams' dad!
