Two Presidents in one
Grover Cleveland Alexander - the namesake of one US President (Grover Cleveland), and portrayed in the movie by another (Ronald Reagan). No point here, just an interesting factoid.

shareYes, I caught that too.
shareThe next-greatest baseball players named for a President are probably Calvin Coolidge "Cal" McLish, a decent but unspectacular 1950s pitcher; and George [Washington] Cates, a 1940s outfielder who led the league in stolen bases a few times. Nobody's going to be making a film about either of them. (Willie Mays' father was named for William Howard Taft, however.)
shareThe Washington Senators had a player named John Kennedy playing for them when JFK was in the White House...
(he then played for the Dodgers, Yankees, Brewers and Red Sox)
"It's Time for DODGER Baseball!"
If you check the full cast and crew list, one of the announcers is played by an actor named John Kennedy. It is an uncredited appearance.
This John Kennedy appeared in small roles in only a few films in the early 1950s and then his last credit was for The Deadly Trackers in the 1970s.
Quite a disjointed career.
And the idiot Reagan asked the Speaker of the House where he got such a fine desk and when Tip O'Neil responded that it was Grover Cleveland's, The senile Reagan said, "Oh yeah, I played him in a movie once."
shareIt amazes me how stupid haters can be. I don't know how old you are but you are weak on history. The line was "I was scheduled to play him in a movie once, but I like being the real thing better!" (The film that would have had Reagan playing President Cleaving in a support role of a historical drama. The film never got out of development.) The line was misquoted by news sources at the time.
Get your facts right!
Try reading and learning instead of listening to "Big Brother's" rewritten history! (In case you need to be told "Big Brother" is taken from the Novel "1984" about a people who listen to a government that rewrites history to fit their views and keep anyone from "Thinking". Try reading it since you are living it.)
Yes, Reagan was indeed "the real thing". During World War I, the decision to draft this film's title character, Grover Cleveland Alexander, into military service most likely cost many baseball fans the chance to see the Phillies win their first World Series. However, Reagan's actions to delay the release of the hostages until 1981 also prevented those hostages from seeing the Phillies from winning the World Series. I wonder how much he liked that "real thing".
Hey, did you know that Tim McGraw's father used to play baseball? Because Reagan's first duty as President was to take a crap on the highlight of McGraw's career for Reagan's own personal gain.
