it doesn't age well

probably the least deserving of john ford's 4 oscars as director. The film has dated considerably. comedy isn't really ford's turf. even the comic relief in films like 'the searchers' or 'how green was my valley' doesn't hold up.(though the films are terrific)
the quiet man is put together decently but the material is ordinary.

Totally disagree and totally wrong sadness for you lol

It get better with age. It's like anything else, if it's not your cup O tea, it's not your cup O tea. I respect your opinion, but I completely disagree with it. The material is far from ordinary and hasn't been matched to this day.

Now if only someone would give it the BluRay treatment it deserves.

Happiness is a belt-fed weapon.

I agree with cobram-1. It deserves to be in the Top 25 Films of all time. It has it all: beautiful scenery, great performances, tastefully implied sexuality delivered with wit, and a musical score that gives me goose-bumps. If not released on blu ray, the LEAST Artisan/Republic could have done was remaster this classic by going back to the three-strip Technicolor negatives, and then scan each one, realigning them to prevent the fuzziness seen in all VHS and DVD copies, and do some color correction. Think of how great “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Gone with the Wind,” and “The African Queen” all look, and they were all shot using the same color process, but Warner Brothers and Paramount, which hold the rights to those films, spent millions giving them the treatment they deserved.

I disagree, but respect your opinion. It’s one of my favorite movies. I wish it would get released on BluRay. This film has beautiful scenery, wit, class and charm. It is sexy and sensual without trying too hard.

I'll be another one to disagree with you, but like others respect your opinion. I really enjoy this movie and watch it at least once a year. There's a lot of history and Irish culture in it, albeit some of it is subtle.

One of my favourite movies.

I agree with you. I really don't think its that great as a movie. The characters didn't feel like people i could relate to. the ending fight scenes totally took the sting out of the movie. I just wasn't able to like it.

I believ john ford's best movies are The grapes of wrath and The man who shot liberty vallance. The searchers, stagecoach and how green was my valley are also great movies but this, well i'm not too sure.

The movie is perfectly cast and still makes me smile after years of watching it.

John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara are magic together. And, I have always loved the subtle humor that McLaughlin brings to his parts in Ford's movies. Barry Fitzgerald as Michaleen Oge Flynn is simply fabulous! I consider Fitzderald's performance as a great example of humor. When he sees the broken bed and says: "Homeric", it is wonderful comedy expressed by a sight gag snd a single word.

It is sad the humorous characters of older movies have been replaced by vulgar, witless comedic parts. Subtlety is lost on most movie-goers today.

Probably why they can't appreciate a great movie like this in the first place.

I wish Hollywood would learn from this movie on how to be sexy, sensual, classy, witty and funny. Now they try way too hard to do that kind of stuff except for classy. Hollywood will never have onscreen couple like Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne. Maybe I am being bias. When I was teenager, my mom would buy me old movies. She knew I would like them. Those two are one of my favorite even to this day. Yes they are sensational.

One of the few movies to show a true village in Ireland. The best non war non western movie Ford ever made.
