Hans J Salter's score was excellent. A lot of it was standard Western stuff, of course, but it really came into its own during the early scenes when James Stewart and Arthur Kennedy were crawling around in the undergrowth chasing Indians. Very atmospheric - shame Salter and others were never given much credit.
It's a shame, but true, that a lot of people only notice the score when it is showy; but here Salter supports and enhances the visuals in a seamless, undistracting way.
You can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead.
BillyFisher....This is far .far..fetched...I am watching the movie "Bend of the River", noticed music credits for Hans J. Slater. Way back...about 1945...1946...there was an evangelical revival team in Madisonville, KY led by a Rev. Maurice Davis..out of Owensboro,KY....his music leader was a Hans Slater...a great trombonist...!!!! Surely this couldn't be one in the same...!!!...??? Do you know any history or back ground on Hans...I remember him as being a very nice looking blonde headed fellow, with glasses...!! Ha...I was about 11 or 12 years old at the time...!!! Thanks...Clarence Tudor [email protected]
