Teriffic movie. Highly recommend.

I saw this film about 10 years ago, and again recently. What a teriffic story, and great execution. The cast is fantastic. The women give 100% to their roles, and it was a very enjoyable script.

It really shows how tough it was for our forefathers to settle this country. It wasn't a picnic. The hazards were numerous, from weather to topography. And you had to be tough and dedicated.

A real gem of a movie, and a real picture of America. I highly recommend it.

I agree this movie is a real gem. I was expecting a typical western when I recorded it on TIVO but after reading the plot I thought it would be worth watching and it was. Another plus is that my favorite director Frank Capra wrote it. This movie does show how our forefathers/mothers settle into this country and it was not easy at all. This movie does not color it and it does not romanticize it. It gives you a real glimpses of life back then. I know it was hard for the men, but for the women, it was even harder. They worked just as hard or even more so. This is a great movie for U.S. history teachers to show to their students and for those who want to see a great film about America's past. I also highly recommend it.

I believe the death rate on the OT averaged out to about three per mile. High odds of not surviving. Most died of cholera and many drowned fording the Platte and other rivers. Children were espcially vulnerable.

TERRIFIC movie, one of the best westerns for a woman to enjoy since it's more from their prospective.
