Arguments over which version is better are silly

All these arguments over which version is better (this or Carpenter's) are just silly. They are two vastly different films based on the same story. And both are excellent -- for different reasons.

So if you have a favorite (I enjoy both equally), then good for you. But the childish bickering and scene-by-scene comparisons are just ridiculous. And a waste of time.

Instead, I say we all band together and talk about how crappy and unnecessary the 2011 Heijningen version is. ;-D

Amen!

As far as the 2011 one - obviously subpar, but still thought it entertaining enough.

Agreed. Both films are great in their own way.

I didn't mind the 2011 movie although admittedly it is NOT in the same league as these two classics.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Not if you're an internet troll ;-)

I'm a big fan of Carpenter's movie. I just saw the older movie for the first time. I don't know much about 1950s sci-fi movies but I thought it was pretty good. I agree with you. Comparing the two is pointless.

After the Thing 1951 every single alien encounter movie from then on was a horrorfilm with deadly creepy aliens or an armada ready to take over! First in literature was of course HG Wells´s War of the Worlds 1898!
