Some of the people listing their fave 5 are listing what I would consider horror movies as sci-fi.

In no particular order since I'm a huge fan of all of these sf films from the '50's :20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.........The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms.........Forbidden Planet...............The Incredible Shrinking Man......Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.........Them!.......War Of The Worlds.........The Thing From Another World..........The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Wow, I am a child of the 50's and saw almost all of the movies listed as a child. They were wonderful movies and any order is all right by me.
