Black and White or Colourized version?

Just got this on rental and it has both versions, which would people recommend?

reply

Ooo, there's a colourized version? Cool. I'd watch the original first, then the other.

reply

The original was black & white. They colorized it later on when color TVs were more prevalent. I remember watchin the colored one on TNT when I was a kid.

reply

I'd watch the black and white because that's the way it was shot so that's how it's supposed to be seen.

But there's no reason you can't watch both!

Ditto what littlejimmy says.

Yes, I too agree with what LittleJimmy835 has to say. Woody Allen also opined that it was totally wrong to colorize the great black and white films of the 30s', 40s' and 50s'.

I remember seeing an old Laurel and Hardy comedy classic, in which the beer in Ollie's beer mug had been tinted "green" instead of the usual gold (and it wasn't even St. Patrick's Day!). Ugh!

I'm guessing your rental has expired by now. Still, don't let the pompous black-and-white purist radicals deter you from watching it in color, if that would be your inclination.

I just saw some of the colorized version on You Tube, and I thought they did a spectacular job.
