"Sounds like a hungry child."

Or "sounds like a child who's gone to bed hungry." Or something like that. Can't recall the exact words, but for some reason I find that one line creepier than anything else in the whole film.

"The storm cannot be stopped, but it can be survived.'"

I find that scene creepier than anything in the 1982 film.

In a earlier script draft for "The Thing" at one point they turn on the intercom in the green house and can actually hear the plants wailing!

I believe the line is:"It sounds like the wail of a newborn child that's hungry." And yes, that is a very creepy part of the movie.

That scene always gives me the shivers. When the scientist takes the stethoscope away from the wailing pod, he has to turn his back and move off a few paces before he says that line. He is truly shaken. That is a wonderful bit of directing and acting.
