Needs restoration

When is this film going to be restored? One scene with Gen Fogarty has shown damage for years now. A recent showing on TCM shows other parts appearing darker than I remember. I do not own the DVD so I only get to see it when on tv, primarily on TCM. I wonder if the condition is any better on DVD.

Somedays it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.

The DVD version is in very, very good shape. I hope that in the future it comes to blu-ray.

The DVD available from Amazon is much clearer and sharper, without any of the blurry defects of the TCM version they televise.

Completely agreed, we need a proper remastered/restored version.

Criterion please, make it happen!

Posted on the "Home Theater Forum": Here's what Warner Archive had to say a few months ago regarding a potential Blu-ray release of The Thing (1951):

"We would like to. This film presents particular challenges (evident in the master used for DVD) as 35mm elements were cut for theatrical reissue, and we had to use sub-standard 16mm elements to create a complete version in the past. We are seeking 35mm elements of the original version for a Blu-ray upgrade, but the prospects are not encouraging at the present time. Thanks"
