'departure scene' mentioned in the trivia section

is this scene when Julie first leaves the boat, or right at the end when the boat leaves and Julie comes to say good bye, for me the last scene is one of the most poignant scenes ever put on film

Bring Dynasty Season 2 out on DVD PLEASE

its been a while since ive seen it, but if i remember rightly its when Julie first leaves the boat, but think there is an orchestral reprise when Julie is stood in the shadows wtching the cotton blossom leave at the end.....like i said its been a while so i could be wrong

You're right. It's the scene when Julie leaves the boat and Joe sings in the mists. It chilled me right down to the bone. Did the sheriff cart her off to a local shantytown?

reply

I think she went on and lived as a prostitute...how sad..

reply

Although unsaid, I think it's safe to assume Regis Toomey is escorting Ava Gardner and Robert Sterling at least as far as the county line.

It is the scene where Julie first leaves the boat. There is mention of fog in the trivia item, and that's the only scene that takes place in a fog.

reply

Julie leaving the boat and saying goodbye to the good hearted and compassionate Captain Andy, along with the moodiness of the fog...and William Warfield's "Ol' Man River"...was the most moving sequence in the movie. I've watched it many times for just that sequence.

LionHearted

I know it's a long time since you originally posted this comment, but i thought i'd tell you that I distinctly remember being carried from the cinema at the age of five in 1952, in hysterics because they left Julie on the pier ...just saw it again today and it still brings a tear to the eye.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

reply

How many actresses have ever looked as good as Ava did in that scene ?

reply

She was preternaturally, no, absurdly beautiful, and feisty ... more than a match for the creepy little Sinatras of the world.
