We need a new DVD!

A new SHOW BOAT Special Edition DVD from WB is long overdue. The current DVD is nice, but has no extras, and the video transfer still leaves a bit to be desired. An all-new ultra resolution transfer from original film elements (where available) is in order, and I'm sure there is a whole treasure trove of stuff related to the legendary Kern-Hammerstein musical and its various film incarnations that could be included under the guise of special features. Maybe a two disc set, with the first disc devouted to this film, and the second to the earler 1936 Universal version and maybe, provided adequate disc space, even the little seen 1929 part silent-part talkie film adaptation of the original novel. What do you think?

Regardless, a new edition is needed!

In 2008, we'll be getting the complete Show Boat Collection with the 1929, 36, and 51 versions. The 51 version will be in Ultra Rez and i'm sure will be packed with extras. This will definately be worth the wait.

I've heard that a version of the film exists with a stereophonic soundtrack? True? If so, it would be great to have that on DVD. Sound on currently existing versions only satisfactory.
