Kept Me Guessing

I'm a huge classic movie fan, but I have to say that most of them are pretty predictable, especially if they were made during the Hays code years. This one actually kept me guessing the whole time. I kept wondering if Loretta was going to have to reveal to someone that her husband was dead. Her increasing desperation as she could not get the letter back from the postman, then then from the postal supervisor, seemed very real. Loretta even allowed herself to look sweaty and worn down, which was unusual for her. I don't think I've ever seen her look anything but gorgeously put together in a movie (well, I take that back, maybe a bit in "Rachel and the Stranger"). But I thought it worked very well and I was honestly in suspense wondering how the movie would end.
