the single greatest line in movie history
I have to say this movie has the single greatest bit of dialogue in motion picture history:
German Boat Captain: "I now pronounce you man and wife. Proceed with the execution!"

I know! I love 'Singing In The Rain' Such a great film.
Another brilliant line is when Don's taking the micky out of Cathy. When he gets out of the car he says, "Farewell Ethel Barrymore, I must tear myself from your side." and the tux gets ripped off his back! Brilliant! Know the film nearly off by hearT!
"We know their dream; enough
To know they dreamed and are dead;"
"Here's looking at you, kid."
i would have to disagree!!! the best line ever is from some like it hot.at the end of the movie, he goes "i'm not a woman. I'm a man!" and then the other guy goes "nobody's perfect." and thats the end! i love that line!
shareI have to go with Some Like It Hot: "Look at it! Look at the way she moves, it's like Jell-O on springs. I tell you it's a completly different sex!"
No one of consequence
From All About Eve:
"It's just a fur coat.
It's sable, what did you expect?
I don't know, diamond collar, gold sleeves, you know. . .picture people."
AND
"What a story! Everything but bloodhounds snapping at her rear end."
Dale
He doesn't say "I'm not a woman", he says " you don't understand Osgood..(takes wig off and nudges him)..I'm a man". "Well..nobody's perfect".
shareTo rainbowbrite1889:
"Nobody's perfect!" The translation of that exact line gave the movie its title in Danish: "Ingen er fuldkommen"
Of course you disagree, and rightly so. There is no single "best" or "greatest" or whatever. Mathematics is absolute and indisputable. Opinions are not.
SLIH has been called the greatest comedy of all time so often that it makes me yawn. Same with the final line, by the way. My personal(!) opinion.
About the OP's line: yes, that's a nice one, but I have a hat full of those.

I never make mistakes. Once I thought I did, but I was wrong.
German boat captain: "I think I'll hang you twice."
sharedon't forget from apocalypse now, "ilove the smell of napalm in the morning, it smells like victory."
or schindler's list "this list is an absolute good, this list is life."
That is a great line, definitely in the top 20 I'd say.
Cuz we were like, "woaaaah.", and I was like, "woaaaah." and you were like, "woaaahh..."
The greatest line in motion picture history is spoken by Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction...
"I'm a mushroom cloud layin' *beep*, *beep*! Anytime my hand touches brain, Superfly TNT!"
don't forget from apocalypse now, "ilove the smell of napalm in the morning, it smells like victory."
Actually that is an incorrect quote.
"Well I ain't sorry no more, you crazy, psalm-singin', skinny old maid!"
Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious - Oscar Wilde
I like that one, but there are four I like more:
"No one will truly be free until nerd persecution ends."
"It's a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
and
"I love the smell of Napalm in the morning. It smells like victory."
"Ernest Hemingway once wrote, 'The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for.' . . . I agree with the second part."
Morgan Freeman in Se7en, the final line, hell yes.
for me casablanca has the best screenplay, there are so many good lines in that.
shareI agree, i think Casablanca is the best screenplay ever written as well.
"A) she turned me into a newt. B) A Newt? A) I got better "
I know it's corny, but who doesn't get a catch in their throat when Harry Bailey raises his glass and toasts:
"To my big brother George...the richest man in town."
Nothing's too good for the man who shot Liberty Valence."
"Herr Rolf, it came to that the first time you sentenced a man to death you know to be innocent."
"He's like any other man...only more so."

That's my favorite line from the movie, too, as my signature can attest! I laughed so hard when I heard it.
"I now pronounce you man and wife. Proceed to the execution."
