Amazing

Oh, it was so long ago!

I saw this movie on TCM when I was probably in 4th grade and have been in love with it ever since.

I've only seen it once, but it introduced me to Debbie Reynolds and gave me another chance to see how wonderful Jane Powell really is (first saw her in, of course, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers -- another incredible movie).

I remember laughing at the last dance when she was so excited about getting a corset (finally!) yet it turned out to be a special needs corset with a back brace! Thus, it locked up on her during her final dip. Classic.

I have just ordered the VHS on Amazon for $15! If any of you are fans of this long-forgotten movie, I suggest you pick up a copy as soon as possible!

I like my sugar with coffee and cream.

Jane's character Patti has just turned 17 and she's ready to be a woman. But her mother isn't read to allow her. While other young women her age are wearing corsets and long dresses Patti is stuck in her kiddie dresses with bows in her hair. Her family heads to the Caskills every summer for two weeks and during that two weeks she falls in love with handsome older Cuban Demi (Ricard Ricardo Montalban). Her desire to be with the adults and trying to impress Demi leads to some comic situations.

A very nice movie. I highly suggest checking it out.

Can we talk for just one moment about how wonderful Ricardo Montalban is in this? It's not even weird that he develops a psuedo-relatonship with a 17 year old, because he's so utterly charming. I have to admit it; this performance made me fall in love with the man just a little bit.

I very good movie. I can't the last part of it about 2 weeks ago on TCM cause it was Jane Powell's birthday. So I borrowed the vhs from the local library and I loved it. Hopefully, soon TCM will show it again. Yes, Ricardo is very handsome in this.

Ricardo Montalban was hot. I've seen a few of his early movies and have enjoyed them. He not only looked good and had a great physique, he also made the roles interesting. Unfortunately, the movies he was in weren't always the best; they were kind of light and formulaic, but that was through no fault of his own. He was typecast as the Latin lover in most of them. Still, that was better than the roles most ethnic actors were able to get. They usually got the stereotypical roles playing thugs, servants, or nameless background extras. It was the sign of the times.

Yeah, it's odd isn't it? The girls today are so 'free', so sophisticated, so informed, yet they seem to need much more protection than ever before. As a rule even the most boy-crazy girl back then knew how to set limits and avoid risky situations. Today, a lot of girls seem to think (because that's what they're told) they can change their minds and say no after the deed is done and still call it rape. What progress we seem to be making.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
