OUTRAGE by Martin Ritt is much better.We can't think this as a remake.It is the adaptation of a story and Martin Ritt version is far much better..I think Kurosawa is an overrated director.Maybe he is not a director. The woman character was very ugly. Who fights for an ugly creature like that.Dialogue was just terrible. Acting was very very bad. I have the same idea with other Kurosawa movies.His best movie(best of worst) is Dersu Uzala but it is also very boring.The best Japanese movie I have watched is Hana-Bi.I will also try "Harakiri".
