They both excelled in this picture. Margaret Phillips was not in that many movies. Don't know why not.
Barry Sullivan was quite laid back and reserved compared to his usual brusque manner. Really good in this.

I was disappointd by the lack of screen time given to him in this picture. He didn't exactly have much to do here, and it was a real shame. This film is very mediocre, and I was glad every time we got a dose of Barry!
My 3 favorite Barry Sullivan roles:
1. As Collie (Lt. Collier), the savvy, why-play-by-the-rules cop in "Tension" (1949). The dialog is great in this movie, and he had some real ZINGERS, let me tell ya. You must see it if you haven't yet.
2. As the once cocky, now ultra-paranoid, menacing ex-GI in "Cause for Alarm," married to the sweet, perplexed Loretta Young, also great. (1951)
3. As Doug, in "Jeopardy" (1953), the is-he-doomed(?) family man in it up to his neck (very bad pun, sorry), who must rely on his faithful, determined wife, Babs Stanwyck, to get him rescued, while his son can only look on, horrified, which is killing Doug emotionally and mentally. Wow. It's really Ms. Stanwyck's picture, but his performance is heartwrenching.
Do you have any recommendations?
I always liked him as Fred Amiel, the movie director in "The Bad and the Beautiful." and as Joan Crawford's suffering husband in "Queen Bee".
