the haunting musical score

I like this film mainly for it's haunting score. Film score composer, Bronislaw Kaper, did a masterful job on this film's recouring theme. Does anyone know whether sheet music exists for this? Does anyone even know the name of the theme song for this film? Please let me know at [email protected]

I have been a fan of film composer Kaper for a very long time. To my surprise, he composed more film scores than probably any other. I think the song you're referring to is simply called The Theme Song from A Life of Her Own.

Maybe there is more information about Kaper and his prolific musical life on the web. I'll be searching for it and maybe find a bio on this exceedingly talented man.

I know it's a long time to make a reply to you (three years), but I can tell you the name of the theme music is "Invitation." The same music was used in the movie Invitation starring Dorothy McGuire and Van Johnson. So far, I've been unable to find the sheet music. I'm still trying.

I too loved the music from this movie, I have heard the jazzed version(Invitation), but it doesn't have the poignancy of this film's version.
I see that the sheet music is easily obtained now on the web.

Invitation has become a jazz standard. There are several versions on youtube.

To hell with youtube. People want to hear this theme properly. The best version is by Rosemary Clooney with orchestration by Nelson Riddle. It can be found on a splendid two-in-one CD on the Reprise label, available from the usual on-line sellers.

Well, maybe you shouldn't diss YouTube, because I just listened to the Rosemary Clooney version on it! You're right that it's a superb version. Just masterful and haunting. Thanks for bringing attention to it!

Back in the late 1960s, I was married to a talented musician who was working in a hotel piano bar in Honolulu. We had a new baby daughter, so I only went there occasionally to see him perform. One night he came home glowing, and told me that Lana Turner was staying at the hotel and she had come into the bar and that as soon as he saw her enter, he began playing the song, "Invitation". He said that she had come right over to him, kissed him on the cheek, and told him, thank you, that was my very favorite movie.

Great story!
