When the prince is just bowing at the girls the king loudly says "there must be one girl who would make a suitable mother." Which causes the duke to shush him.

Apparently, that would have any of the girls running a mile if they knew he wanted to have kids?

True, I get that he was a bastard.

But then again, the time period was in the 1800s. Back then women were expected to have kids right after marriage despite the young age.

Lol, the King is suppose to be a comedic character, he's just so desperate for grandchildren his mind immediately goes to 'mother' instead of 'wife' 
