Norton's piano playing

Was Art Carney really playing the piano in "The $99,000 Question"? It sure looked like he was.

Very good question!! Just seen that episode and gotta believe he was, especially liked the scene when the loudmouth neighbor bursted in 'Why dont you stop playing, you'll wake eberybody up'
Ralph replies 'Your jealous coz when I win my picture will be on the front page of every newspaper around the country.
Loudmouth answers back 'Yeah well so will mine for killing you!

Too bad Ralph got stumped!

I think so. Maybe Art knew how to play it.

Almost certainly. Not only does it look like he was, but I did a little research, and apparently he was a skilled pianist. According to Sheila MacRae, "He was also very good at playing the piano. Back in New York, he’d play all night at a place called Goldie’s. Old-time songs. No rock & roll. Not even jazz. He’d be singing 'Wabash Moon' and 'Carolina in the Morning.' Everybody loved him."

Art Carney was definitely playing the piano in that episode. He was an excellent musician. I saw him on some talk shows in the 1970s where he demonstrated his talent.

Any time I hear "Swannee River" I always think of its writer Ed Norton lol.

Art Carney was a true introvert, so anytime he was at a party, he would go straight to the piano in order to avoid socializing.
