Terrific Board!

Been an IMDber since Jan '02 and have made over a thousand posts. This is THE most literate, informative and interesting board I have yet seen. Even the "troll" posts turn into interesting and insightful threads. Congrats to the regular posters here for their knowledge and interesting POV on 8th AF and the WWII air war in general. The wealth of personal experiences related here whether by the poster himself or from a close relative add a special flavor to the movie and the 8th AF's saga.

I've kind of liked it here myself and visit often. One of my favorite movies and there are a lot of people like me here that are interested in a lot more than just an action movie.

You know this film is pretty unique in that it looks at the war from a psychological and internal point of view rather than focusing on "action" and also looks at what "commanders" go through. In the film, it's ironic that a fellow who's so far way from the action suffers so much in sending men really to die. Apparently, there's soemthing about the air war that lends itself to this kind of portrayal we see in the film. Peck is brilliant in how he pulls it off. Also, I'm not too sure there's a film like this when we look at the land war. I'd be curious if there are any that I may be missing.
