During the first part of the bombing run on the ball bearing factory, someone yells in the radio a generic warning of approaching German fighters. Savage reprimands him over the radio, saying, "Give number of planes and direction" etc, in other words, "Be more specific!" Later on, Savage himself shouts into the radio, "Here come 3 more."

ah there we go..the first intimations of Savage's deteriorating powers and it starts with "observations".....

and on that mission he really does start to sweat and show some nervousness as the planes start falling down around him. Didn't consider himself a dead man walking anymore.

He gave the number and I assumed it was from the same direction as the first batch. Strictly speaking, you right though. One should never assume.
