ANY MILLARD MITCHELL FANS?

I think he deserved a supporting Academy Award for his role as General Pritchard. He totally inhabits the role and makes it SO real. You BELIEVE he is a General. Mitchell always seemed at his best 'in charge of things' - you may remember his comic role as the studio boss in Singin' In The Rain.

reply

Yes, a fine actor. And now, like Betty Hutton, Ricardo Cortez, Mary Wickes, Walter Abel, etc., largely forgotten.

reply

Singin'in The Rain, The Naked Spur and Winchester 73 as well. Douglas Fowley is a riot as the director. Versatile if you watch him on Wyatt Earp. Myron Healey couldn't match Mitchell as Doc Holliday.

reply

I couldn't get over how much he sounded like Darren McGavin.

reply

he was also brilliant with peck in the gunfighter a year later

sadly he smoked too many cigarettes

reply

He was great. I especially liked him in Billy Wilder's A Foreign Affair with Dietrich and Jean Arthur.
