A story as old as the hills. The husband came off as an old but rich fuddy duddy. Look at his fellow executives at the plant The wife who was bored with him, craved excitement and didn't mind spending her husband's money on a roughneck with no money of his own.

One other stupid plot hole: I guess nobody checked the dental records of they guy in the crash to see it wasn't Walter.
That’s my assessment as well. Irene was in it for the money. You could see how pained she was at her lawyer’s demand for 1/3 of her inheritance as his fee for defending her.
