dance music

Does anyone know what is the first piece of music Catherine and Morris dance to? It is in common time and very familiar but I cannot place it; I have an idea it may be Haydn, but that is very likely wide of the mark.

I can't remember which is the piece playing for their first dance, but the soundtrack listing does specify which pieces are played at the party:

I suspect the piece that caught your attention is the Gossec Gavotte. It is fairly well-known, and, if anyone in your family studied violin with the Suzuki method, you would have heard it on the recordings, at recitals, and/or being practiced. Listen here:

How pleasant to receive a response, after two years or so! - and pleasanter still when the response proves to be correct! Thank you so much, pp.

You are quite welcome!

Just a footnote -- it's also one of the pieces Otto keeps trying to play on the violin in In the Good Old Summertime.

Clearly it was a standard for violin students long before Dr. Suzuki!
