Good Lord! - can these people exist without cigarettes?
That is one thing that annoys me about TCM. I am constantly waving imaginary smoke during their movies.

shareThe didn't seem bothered about emptying ashtrays either.
shareDon't blame TCM. Smoking was almost compulsory in the 1940s

Ha ha!! Absolutely not blame TCM.
Hard to believe that so much change with regards to smoking in such a little time...
I meant damn you TCM for showing these wonderful films that make me wave invisible cigarette smoke...
Most ballet dancers I've known are chronic smokers even today. Many do it as a substitute for eating; not that I consider dust, water and kale shakes eating.
shareDon't wave away the imaginary cigarette smoke, enjoy the chance for some virtual secondary smoking that won't hurt you
Enjoy the film(s)

O come on it was an era where smoking was apparently good for you!
It's that man again!!
I agree completely, COUGH COUGH COUGH!
😞
Even then, dancers had to keep their weight down, and I'm told cigarettes cut the appetite and stop hunger pangs.
And Moira Shearer may have been as slight as a rose's stem when she made this film, but she's "fat" by the standards of today's dancers. They're really messed up about weight and diet.
